NO HERO #1: Pencil Art Preview

Post #6155 by Warren Ellis on July 18th, 2008 in Work

I just threw some of Juan Jose Ryp’s pencilled pages up at Whitechapel. Here’s one, in smaller size — the others are over here, all in larger size.

NO HERO #1 is published in September. (Avatar released the #0 issue, containing the crucial first chapter, ahead of BLACK SUMMER #7, which ships next week.)

it's a big hat. it's funny.

Ryan was home for Thanksgiving, and he just kept walking up to me and saying, "It's a big hat, it's funny." He mimed the chewing of the gum and everything, and we just started randomly saying it to each other all weekend. ...Here's an alternate link to funny or die for those of you who are outside the US.

"fandom's about not being alone anymore"

Maybe you started as a fan-inna-box, two hundred miles from the nearest con and farther still to the nearest fan, but you came here to find friends, and to share your squee, and to create things together, and to say, "I was here, and I loved this thing, and these are the people who will remember me." Maybe they'll remember you for that fanfic where you had all the characters doing a kickline, and maybe they'll remember that filk you did to "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," and maybe they'll recall with a smile the weird in-depth meta you did on the time-travel episode, and maybe they'll remember the vid you did of the dancing penguins, but mostly, the good friends will remember the other things you did and talked about, your pets and your family and that trip you dreamed of and that crazy prank you pulled on your boss and that time you dyed your hair blue. ... This dovetails with some of the reasons I love conventions : Those of us who will cram thirteen of our friends into a hotel room for a weekend to geek out together have a place to go where not only will we not be laughed at for dressing up but encouraged to do it (except the furries; those weirdos are on their own.)

happiest days sells out - thank you!

We've just taken down the ordering page for the Happiest Days of Our Lives at Monolith Press, because the entire second printing is now sold out. It's unlikely that I'll do another Monolith Press printing in the near future, because Subterranean Press will have the special edition in just a few months.

[info]avphibes has been sadly absent from the tubes of late, but if you read only one thing today, please read her review of Twilight, the book. I won't spoil for you the part where she fills in the missing sex scenes. Go. Now.

OH OH OH... and the bestest part of all: The reason vampires can't go out in the sun? Because they're sparkly. Yes, sparkly. REALLY. I'm going to extrapolate from this that they also ride unicorns and crap gumdrops. I had to put down the book at that point and crack up.

@BarackObama, @GregGrunberg: We're totally in a comic together!

Wil Wheaton - Thursday December, 04 2008 12:10 PM PST

This is just awesome. Three thoughts: 1) HijiNKS Ensue joins Something Positive to be the second comic in the last week that's made me feel more awesome than I deserve, or will ever actually be. 2) Greg is probably famous enough to actually get to meet him, this is likely the closest I'll ever get to Barack Obama. 3) Yes, this title is optimized for Twitter. It's meta, it's funny

Weekly Ad Uncoiling: queer-travel.de

Mount Assmore! This is truly one of the funniest ads (click here for closer look) I’ve seen in my 20 years in this fucked-up business. It’s for German website queer-travel.de, who for over 12 years, have made “gay and lesbian travel dreams come true…” according to the highly reliable Google [...]
